Featured and good topics in Wikipedia

This star symbolizes the featured topic candidates on Wikipedia.
GA icon symbolizing Good topic candidates on Wikipedia.
A featured topic is a collection of inter-related articles that are of a good quality (though are not necessarily featured articles).

A good topic is a collection of inter-related articles that are of a good quality (though are not necessarily featured articles) with a less stringent quality threshold than a featured topic.

This page is for the nomination of potential featured and good topics. See the good and featured topic criteria for criteria on both types of topic. If you would like to ask any questions about your topic and the featured topic process before submitting it, visit Wikipedia talk:Featured topic candidates.

Before nominating a topic, nominators may wish to receive feedback by listing it at Featured topic questions. Nominators must be sufficiently familiar with the subject matter and sources to deal with objections during the FTC/GTC process. If you nominate something you have worked on, note it as a self-nomination. Nominators who are not significant contributors to the articles of the topic should consult regular editors of the articles prior to nomination. Nominators are expected to respond positively to constructive criticism and to make an effort to address objections promptly.

The featured topic director, GamerPro64, or his delegate Spy-cicle, determine the timing of the process for each nomination. For a nomination to be promoted to FT or GT status, consensus must be reached for a group to be promoted to featured or good topic status. If enough time passes without objections being resolved, nominations will be removed from the candidates topic and archived.

You may want to check previous archived nominations first:

Nomination procedure[edit]

To create a new nomination use the form below (e.g., Wikipedia:Featured topic candidates/Saffron/archive1) and click the "Create new nomination" button.

Once the nomination page is created, remember to transclude it in the appropriate section below, to leave nomination templates on the talk pages of the articles nominated for the topic, and to create appropriate books (see Book:Jupiter for a good example). For detailed instructions on how to nominate topics or add articles to existing topics, see Wikipedia:Featured topic candidates/Nomination procedure.

Supporting and objecting[edit]

Please review all the articles of the nominated topic with the featured topic criteria in mind before deciding to support or oppose a nomination. Following the creation of the book, Cyberbot I will create a book report (see example) containing details about cleanup issues (only those that have been flagged with cleanup templates, so it may not pick up everything), and various tools to inspect external links or resolve disambiguation pages. It can be a good idea to check the report and inspect links to see if certain articles need some cleanup (doing this before the nomination is even better).

  • To edit nominations in order to comment on them, you must click the "edit" link to the right of the article nomination on which you wish to comment (not the overall page's "edit this page" link).
  • If you approve of a nomination, write '''Support''' followed by your reasons.
  • If you oppose a nomination, write '''Oppose''' or '''Object''' followed by the reason for your objection. Each objection must provide a specific rationale that can be addressed. If nothing can be done in principle to fix the source of the objection, the objection may be ignored.
    • To withdraw an objection, strike it out (with <s>...</s>) rather than removing it.

For a topic to be promoted to featured topic status, consensus must be reached that it meets the criteria. If enough time passes without objections being resolved (at least one week), nominations will be removed from the candidates list and archived. Nominations will stay here for ten days if there is unanimous consent, or longer if warranted by debate.

Nashville Sounds[edit]

The Nashville Sounds are a Minor League Baseball team that has played in Nashville, Tennessee, since 1978. They are named for the city's association with the music industry. The Sounds play their home games at First Horizon Park which opened in 2015 and is located on the site of the historic Sulphur Dell ballpark. They previously played at Herschel Greer Stadium from its opening in 1978 until the end of the 2014 season. Established as an expansion team of the Double-A Southern League in 1978, the Sounds were replaced by a Triple-A American Association team in 1985. The Triple-A Sounds carried on the history of the Double-A team that preceded it. The Sounds became members of the Triple-A Pacific Coast League in 1998.

I am nominating this for featured topic because I believe it exemplifies some of Wikipedia's best work, especially in the area of Minor League Baseball and across the topic of baseball itself. Sounds–Redbirds rivalry is the lone good article in the group, and List of Nashville Sounds no-hitters has only been peer-reviewed due to its shortness. The previous nomination received only two comments (one in support and the other opposing for reasons since rectified). It was suggested I relist for additional views. --NatureBoyMD (talk) 15:25, 13 February 2020 (UTC)

  • Support: This is extremely comprehensive, and, with the no-hitter list peer-reviewed, I believe it satisfies the criteria. -Bryan Rutherford (talk) 18:06, 13 February 2020 (UTC)
  • Support - I verified on NatureBoyMD's talk page that the list is too short to qualify for FL at this time. Otherwise is comprehensive and very impressive, good work. Kees08 (Talk) 16:43, 14 February 2020 (UTC)
  • Support - The no-hitter list needs a couple of more entries for FL, so depending on how well the team plays that could be soon or it could be in a couple of seasons. MPJ-DK (talk) 04:10, 15 February 2020 (UTC)

The newly created CMLL World Mini-Estrella Championship has been passed for GA and can be added to this Feature Topic to make sure it is comprehensive. MPJ-DK (talk) 02:02, 18 January 2020 (UTC)

  • Comment Support: Something strange is going on here. CMLL World Mini-Estrella Championship is not newly created and did not recently pass GA, but rather it is already a FL and already part of this topic since the topic's creation in 2017; it's already the top article in the right column that you just added it to a second time. Did you mean to add a different article? -Bryan Rutherford (talk) 03:24, 18 January 2020 (UTC)
  • Bryanrutherford0 - what is going on is a brain fart on my part, I copied the link, but forgot to change "Mini" to "Micro". I am asking to add the CMLL World Micro-Estrellas Championship... and and I'm apparently a barely functioning idiot at times. Fixed the nomination, glad you are on the ball.MPJ-DK (talk) 04:39, 18 January 2020 (UTC)
Got it, this looks like an appropriate addition to the topic, at GA quality. Supporting. -Bryan Rutherford (talk) 15:12, 18 January 2020 (UTC)

Second Fitna[edit]

An early inter-Muslim civil war that ensued after the death of the first Umayyad caliph Mu'awiya I in 680 CE. It was a highly complicated and multidimensional affair, that left a lasting impact on later Muslim governments and deepened sectarian divide. The core issue of the dispute was "who should rule the caliphate".

I am nominating the newly-created First American International Road Race article to be added to this list of notable subjects related to Briarcliff Manor. Thank you. ɱ (talk) 18:10, 17 February 2020 (UTC)

Weak support: I'm not sure I completely grasp the scope of this topic (it strikes me that "Scarborough Historic District" should perhaps be its own topic, and then the properties in that district would make better sense in that topic than here), but I suppose this race makes as much sense here as "Beechwood" does. If it is to be added, then the new article needs to be actually put into the topic box above. -Bryan Rutherford (talk) 18:26, 17 February 2020 (UTC)
Hey - yeah perhaps from the names it might be hard to put the pieces together. But if you read any of the Briarcliff history books, they focus on each of the village's historic sites above (many of which are in the Scarborough Historic District, Beechwood included). The road race is mentioned in every one of these books as one of the most prominent events centered in Briarcliff in the early 1900s, only a few years after it was founded. ɱ (talk) 19:52, 17 February 2020 (UTC)

This covers a complete topic, the chamionship, a list article and every single person to win the championship is of GA quality. There have been a total of 15 champions over the last 29 years, adding a new champion every 1.5 years on average - so the task of getting another champion article to GA is not an overwhelming task --MPJ-DK (talk) 19:05, 13 February 2020 (UTC)

Yo[edit]

Yo is the sixth studio album by Romanian singer Inna, released on 31 May 2019 by Global Records and Roc Nation. Inna decided the album would feature only Spanish language material, and collaborated extensively with Romanian producer David Ciente on its songs. An experimental and heavily gypsy music-influenced effort, Yo marks the first time Inna took control over an album's creative process; it acts as a departure from her past EDM releases.

Fails criterion 3.b as Hurricane Lane (2018) and Hurricane Willa are not WP:GA, are not being worked on, and are past the three month grace period (the official National Hurricane Center reports were both released on 2 April 2019[1][2]). Armbrust The Homunculus 10:44, 15 December 2019 (UTC)

Comment - In Lane's case I would argue that the final tropical cyclone report is not yet out (see Page 1), since the CPHC has not yet completed its analyses of Lane in the central Pacific where it peaked.Jason Rees (talk) 15:30, 15 December 2019 (UTC)
It is out now. Nova Crystallis (Talk) 18:23, 9 January 2020 (UTC)
  • Remove, even if some allowance for timing was made for Lane, Hurricane Willa is not a GA at this point. MPJ-DK (talk) 02:14, 18 January 2020 (UTC)
@MPJ-DK: It has been a month since you posted this, but KN2731 just added around 16 kB to the article, moved from a page called GAN prep. Seems like it will be at GAN soon. Kees08 (Talk) 19:20, 17 February 2020 (UTC)
I asked KN2731 if he could merge the content that Oof-Off and I worked on and use my research to expand the article. With my research and the new sources KN finds, it should be up for GAN in the near future. Btw, I nominated Lane for GAN. NoahTalk 00:20, 18 February 2020 (UTC)
@Kees08: I am not seeing Hurricane Willa nominated for GA? Am I seeing that wrong? Since it's not even a GAN and we're two months past the 3 month window, I am afraid my comment stands. MPJ-DK (talk) 02:44, 18 February 2020 (UTC)
@MPJ-DK: Usually in cases like this, an extension can be made as long as articles are actively being moved towards satisfying the requirements. Lane is at GAN right now and Willa should be there in short order. NoahTalk 03:08, 18 February 2020 (UTC)
I am all for extensions being made, the removal candidate does not seem to have a lot of support, so I have no problem with giving the authors a reasonable amount of time to get it to GAN. Whatever ya'll think is "reasonable" MPJ-DK (talk) 03:16, 18 February 2020 (UTC)
